When some Whatcom County citizens discovered it toward the end of the first week in February, people began to speak up in protest about the donkey basketball event scheduled at Ferndale High School in Washington on February 13, 2016 to benefit the local chapter of the Future Farmers of America. By the ending of the second week, news of Ferndale school officials moving forward with the event despite opposition from animal advocates who were concerned for the welfare of the donkeys, spread from way up north in Washington state, across the continent, and all the way down south to Florida.
