One of my favorite parts of the Climate Action Task Force presentation of their Climate Action Plan recommendations to the Bellingham City Council Committee of the Whole was the part where this infographic was shown in the slide show during the section presented by Erin McDade, one of the Task Force members. The slide counters some of the inaccurate pictures that have been being painted by Cascade Natural Gas, some of the real estate professionals in our area, and others, of what the Task Force was recommending (before they had every made their recommendations, btw).
Here were Ms. McDade’s comments when the slide was being shown:
“And just to quickly address some of the conversation that’s been going on before these measures have been presented, there are many things that are not part of, or included in, or necessary in the measures that we’re recommending. So the first one, as is clear by our renewable energy pathways is that solar panels will not be required on all rooftops. None of these measures would ever require the update or replacement of an existing roof. None of them would require the installation of new windows. They do not require the removal of existing gas stoves or fireplaces. And finally, none of them would ever require the reconstruction or replacement of building foundations.”
