As with most Americans I awoke today to the news that our nation suffered “the worst mass shooting in US history.” In Orlando, FL, an armed man entered an LGBTQ nightclub, Pulse, on their Latin dance night, and killed at least 50 people with assault weapons. He was finally stopped when law enforcement rammed through the door in a tank and killed him.
This same point was really driven home to me by Lummi Nation a couple of years ago when DOE issued its proposal for clean up of the Whatcom Waterway. In discussing the cost/benefit analysis, it started since the time of colonization. The Lummis were upset that to white people (us), history began only at the moment they arrived. Continue reading

I wanted to speak to him about the new Whole Foods Market store that opened in Bellingham, Washington, on May 11, 2016, and the protest by a delegation of farm workers and their supporters from the local community, that occurred during the store’s grand opening ceremony.
