Over the last number of months, local civic action group, the Riveters Collective has held a number of Ask Me Anything (AMA) events with candidates who were running for office during the 2017 election season and also held some of these events focusing on issues of high public interest. For these events, members of the Riveters Collective Facebook group can submit questions in the comment section under the event to ask candidates or people with specific expertise on designated issues. On the date of the event many of those questions get answered. Sometimes answers continue to come in over the course of the days soon following the event. Continue reading

Today, I was perusing the Public Disclosure Commission website reports filed recently by the Whatcom County Republican Party PAC (“Whatcom Republicans”). I noticed there were two Expenditure reports filed that showed the Whatcom Republicans paid $358.08 on October 9, 2017, and $214.08 on October 27, 2017, to Meridian High School.
Those two dates seemed to correlate with two events I remembered which were: the October 5, 2017 “County-wide Candidate Forum,” and the October 19, 2017 “Wake-Up Whatcom County Rally!” both held at Meridian High School. Continue reading

To try to stay on top of actions that will help reduce further injustice being perpetrated on incarcerated individuals at our downtown Bellingham jail I sent a letter today to Whatcom County Council and Deputy Executive Schroeder today about the consent agenda item on the Council’s Finance and Adminstrative Services Committee agenda tomorrow (11/8) about renovations on the downtown Bellingham jail.
