Our local Bloedel Donovan Park is a great wonder. All kinds of people come from all over for a picnic, or a swim, or to play ball.

Recently, a piece of our park was swallowed up by a rowing club, under some agreement with the parks department. The city [of Bellingham] has been getting very sloppy with its public documents, failing to having appropriate documents related to hearings or work sessions available, or available in adequate time before a public hearing.

At the last planning commission work session for the CAO, the city cited the final habitat restoration plan, but it was not available for public review and I have yet to see a copy. Continue reading

In 2011, Luba Pekisheva was convicted in Whatcom County District Court by judge Elich of assault and theft.  In truth, she probably committed neither. But Pekisheva had defied a good ol’ boy from the county and our Whatcom County justice system – judges, prosecutors and public defenders – seems to have shown extra zeal in convicting Pekisheva and making it stick.  Continue reading
