The County Planning Commission is meeting on Thursday, the 10th, (6:30 PM in council chambers) and I was extremely disappointed to review on the agenda the ridiculous “alternative approaches” for the SEPA review, trumped up by the administration in the hopes of derailing the Weimer Cherry Point amendments. All the exemptions, exceptions, conditional and allowed activities inside critical area habitat conservation areas (The CAO [Critical Areas Ordinance]).

You may not realize all the activities that are allowed when we are protecting biodiversity because they are found in two locations, the specific Article provisions for that type of critical area, and in Article 2, which applies generally to all critical areas. Continue reading

We are all dancing while the Titanic is sinking. Whatcom County is the only Puget Sound county that has a complete marine biotoxin closure zone for every shellfish species, and our zone is wider and more encompassing that any other shoreline county. Continue reading
