I read an article published recently by The Front that featured the two candidates running for the Port of Bellingham Commissioner District 1 race for this November 2, 2021 general election. John Huntley, who is Whatcom Republican Party’s recommended candidate, is challenging incumbent Port of Bellingham Commissioner candidate Michael Shepard, who is endorsed by the Whatcom Democrats.

Back in 2010, Jeffrey McClure, who is currently an incumbent candidate for commissioner for Whatcom County Public Utility District No. 1, signed onto a June 15, 2010, letter to then-Department of Natural Resources Public Lands Commissioner Peter Goldmark, urging him to remove what the letter described as “inherent conflicts” in the Washington State Department of Natural Resources’ draft of its Cherry Point Environmental Aquatic Reserve Management Plan.

Someone alerted me to an email sent to the 42nd LD Democrats list-serve in response to some concern expressed by local investigative journalist Sandy Robson about contributions to the campaign for candidate for Whatcom County Executive, Jim Boyle.

The Whatcom Tea Party is ostensibly defunct. A March 12, 2017, email newsletter sent by the Whatcom Tea Party’s “Town Crier,” to the group’s email mailing list subscribers, stated in part:
“It is with some regret, but also the knowledge that it was a great catalyst, that the Whatcom Tea Party closed its doors effective January 27, 2017, so that we can continue to move forward with our new projects. The tea party lives on, but with new names and new organizations.
Our Whatcom County Planning and Development Services Department (PDS), which is part of our County Administration under the direction of County Executive Jack Louws, needs to start being fully transparent with the public in matters relating to the Gateway Pacific Terminal project. Continue reading

Please consider this an official comment on the 2016 docketed Cherry Point Amendments, identified presently by County Planning and Development Services (PDS) as: “Proposal – Council Resolution (initiated by Council under Resolution 2016- 027),” to the 2016 County Comprehensive Plan Update.
My comment will address the October 26, 2016, letter from Gateway Pacific Terminal (GPT) applicant Pacific International Terminals (PIT) VP Skip Sahlin, sent to the Whatcom County Planning Commission regarding the 2016 docketed Cherry Point Amendments to the County Comprehensive Plan Chapter 2 Land Use Cherry Point UGA, currently under review by the Planning Commission.
