Hey look, right on the heels of tomorrow’s webinar on the new preliminary CAFO (confined animal feedings operation) permit requirements, which expired in 2011, the dairy industry is again running their “sponsored content”, which is what the Herald calls a paid advertisement that is written to look like an article.
That timing is really coincidental, huh?
So what do we learn from the ad? First, cows love to live in factory farm conditions, knee high in manure, in a perpetual state of lactation, having their babies torn away at birth. Second, there are really proud of their poop. (Wonder what Freud would think?)
But the real credit goes to the dairy farmers.. they are like magical manure wizards, turning all that poop into fertilizer to grow wine and beer. Who is against that? Certainly not Yakima County where a lot of manure is sent to grow hops, (and contaminate water near schools in low income neighborhoods.) But the best part is that cow manure provides electricity. Betcha feel dumb worrying about the fossil fuel stuff.
So, OK, DOE, now that we know how great cow manure is, we will not be needing any new permits or updated CAFO requirements, but help yourself to some cheese and ice cream on the way out.
