The recent Herald article (advertisement is more like it) about the Montana delegation coming to town to tour the proposed Gateway Pacific Terminal site at Cherry Point really irritated me—for many reasons.
So much so, that I called Congressman Ryan Zinke’s Helena, Montana office today and asked the staff person answering the phone to give a message to the congressman for me.
My message was:
“I read in our local paper that Congressman Zinke came to Whatcom County this week to tour the proposed Gateway Pacific Terminal site at Cherry Point, and to tell us how great it will be for us, and for the Crow Nation.
“We don’t appreciate him trying to undermine the treaty rights of the Lummi Nation who live here and who do not want the Gateway Pacific Terminal built and operating.
“We don’t appreciate him spreading lies about the environmental plan for GPT by telling the public (as he was quoted in our local paper) that the ‘environmental plan for GPT is flawless.’
“Nothing is flawless, so that is a lie.
“Please tell him he is not welcome in our state as long as he is continuing to lie, and continuing to undermine treaty rights.”
Here is the contact information for Zinke’s Helena, MT office in case anyone else feels motivated to call or send him a message:
