Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.. like the fact that Intalco is cutting jobs all on its own, or that the coal industry is going bust, or that the Lummis have treaty rights, or that is the site of a marine reserve with several species that have been designated as biologically significant.
I think these kinds of simple black and white explanations appeal to people who are basically emotional cowards. It is comforting to believe that the problem is easy to fix…get the clearly identified bad guys (i.e. Resources) out of the way, and the world returns to a happy, safe, prosperous place.
The truth is not that simple. The world is a complex and scary place and the mix of special interest groups and market forces make many things unpredictable. There is the fact that more exploding trains on more tracks in more places in the county discourage business and people from moving here, that several other companies are leaving or downsizing and leaving more people out of work, that the loonie has become so devalued that we are losing our lucrative Canadian business, that Whatcom County remains an overpriced housing market, that we continue to try to grow while we are running out of land and resources, such as water, etc.
All of which makes blaming things on RE Sources about as accurate as blaming them all on the bogey man. It takes courage to face the realities of our time and to show up everyday, with the your sleeves rolled up ready to get to work on the real problems, rather than sit there and blame someone else and pretend that it is simple to make the boo-boo feel better.
