Bellingham’s Youth Call for Gov. Inslee and Pres. Biden to Declare States of Emergency Due to the Climate Crisis / Press Release, Sunrise Bellingham

April 19, 2021 Press Release, Sunrise Bellingham

Bellingham, Washington — The youth of Bellingham and its surrounding area, led by Sunrise Movement Bellingham’s middle and high school team, are demanding that President Biden and Governor Inslee declare Climate Emergencies on both the state and federal levels. This declaration would acknowledge the need for action surrounding the Climate Crisis, and also hold these powerful people accountable for taking definitive steps to reverse the effects of climate change.

The fight to declare a State of Emergency surrounding the Climate Crisis has been going on for many years, and it is critical that action be taken now before it is too late. As minors, our opinions are often overlooked and we are unable to amplify our voices through voting. Yet, these are our futures at stake, and we refuse to be silenced when the impact of inaction will be irreversible. At this action, we will be congregating at City Hall, then marching to Railroad Ave. and handing out informational flyers emphasizing the importance of declaring a Climate Emergency, as well as opportunities that will be made available following the declaration.

We want to inform the community
