‘Jail-roaded’: Did the county bend election law in service to the jail?
Last week, on the day voters expected to receive their ballot and voters pamphlet they received instead a large, expensive glossy four-color multifold mailer.
The mailer photographically illustrated the decayed state of the current jail, included urgent exhortations of needed action for capacity and services by county administrators including the Sheriff and Chief Prosecutor, and highlighted the ballot language of Whatcom County Proposition 2015-1 (injudiciously misidentified in the mailer as Prop. 1, the district-only voting scheme).
